KRISHNAGIRI: A Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) employee was arrested by the sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Wednesday for accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from a farmer to approve an agricultural electricity connection near Hosur in Krishnagiri district.
M Munikrishnan, who lives in Iruthukottai village, had applied to the Denkanikottai South assistant engineer’s office for a low-cost electricity connection for a newly dug borewell in his agricultural field.
According to a DVAC official, V Dhanapalan, 50, a commercial inspector at the office, sought a bribe of Rs 7,000 to facilitate the connection. Unwilling to pay the bribe, Munikrishnan reported the matter to DSP Nagarajan of the Krishnagiri district DVAC unit on Tuesday evening.
As instructed by DVAC officials, Munikrishnan handed over chemical coated currency notes to the tune of Rs 7,000 to Dhanapalan. An eight-member team from the DVAC, led by DSP Nagarajan, caught Dhanapalan red-handed.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is under way.
