On the occasion of International Dance Day, actress Indira Krishna, who was last seen portraying the antagonist Paani Bai in the TV show Durga – Atoot Prem Kahani, opened up about her long-standing connection with dance.
“I used to dance as a kid. I started my journey while performing in cultural events in temples when I was in school, through a group. I feel that dance has always been a part of me. My mother was a good dancer, trained in Bharatnatyam, so I guess she passed some dancing genes to me,” shares Indira.
The actress adds, “I do love to dance even when I exercise. I kind of shake my legs to a tune that gives me some extra energy boost.”
Indira is glad that she got opportunities to showcase her dancing talent through acting as well. “I never escaped or hesitated to perform while shooting. In many TV shows, the script wanted me to perform, and I was all ready and excited. I have danced in a few shows like Krishnadasi and Dhruv Tara for a few scenes where the story requires it.”
She hopes the younger generation connects more with India’s rich classical heritage. Indira shares, “I hope kids learn the real dance like Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kathak, and more such traditional styles along with the new age dance styles.”
